Review
I do not recommend this book to anyone. Almost nonsensical pages of meandering, unsupported analysis of history, stories, and movies digging around what motivates people. Something about the repression of dark desires, ego defenses, equalizing ledgers, a distorted desire and avoidance of power. In the end, I don't really understand. I learned more from reading book reviews than from the book itself. But I still read it all, 1000 pages of which almost 100 are a single pornographic story. Why? It really felt like the author possessed some crucial insight about the world. A few scattered flashes of insight seemed to make sense of some internal dark desires that were once utterly nonsensical to me. It feels like he is pointing towards something real.
