Review
Such a great, unique book following generations of Africans from the 18th century to the present day. While the writing and characters aren't super compelling/stirring, the book offers this episodic multi-century arc giving an appreciation of this vast expanse of time and different historical ways of being. Feels historically real with interesting moments for each generation. Wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a book accompanying some class for contextualizing African generational challenges. The ending was a bit weak, but I respect the book for the sheer ambitiousness in scope yet brevity in reading.
Notes
cool story and the endi ng made me feel some understanding of the vast expanse of time, but still feels like the ending was too faint. The arc too weak. It’s basically an arc of black discrimination in the world.
